HP Sure Start: understanding what firmware will refuse to let you do

  1. Documented fact

HP business platforms include firmware integrity protection that will detect and restore modified firmware regions. This is documented HP behaviour and it is working as designed.

Practical consequence for tuning: firmware-level modification is not a tuning avenue on these machines. The supported surface is the BIOS setup options HP exposes, plus the management tooling. Anything that involves modifying the firmware image itself is out of scope here, and threads proposing it will be closed.

The published firmware inventory covers how to record what your machine is actually running before you consider any firmware update. Firmware inventory writeup.

  2. Documented fact

Worth adding that the supported BIOS surface is larger than most people realise. Before anyone goes looking for unsupported approaches, the setup menu on a current ZBook exposes power, thermal and device options that cover most of what gets asked about here.
