Why this forum is about workstations specifically

  1. Documented fact

Reasonable question that comes up often enough to deserve a thread. The tuning culture that exists around gaming hardware optimises for peak framerate in a short window on a machine the owner can reinstall at will.

A workstation has different constraints. It has to stay supportable, it frequently has to satisfy a security posture the owner does not control, it runs sustained rather than bursty work, and the cost of an unexplained instability is somebody's working day rather than a lost match.

That difference changes which tuning is worth doing. Most of it turns out to be removing unnecessary work rather than raising limits.

  2. User observation

Strongly agree. We support about sixty Z-series machines and the changes that have delivered lasting value are all boring. Fewer startup entries, correct drivers, clean power configuration, and enough free storage.

Nothing exotic has survived a year of production use.
