Sustained load: where the mobile workstation actually gives up

  1. Hypothesis

Short benchmarks on mobile workstations mostly measure the boost window, not the machine. The interesting number is where it settles after fifteen or twenty minutes of continuous load.

My working assumption, not yet demonstrated with clean data, is that most of the perceived difference between two similarly specified ZBooks under real workloads is sustained thermal behaviour rather than peak clocks.

  2. Measured result

The thermal telemetry writeup covers how to collect this properly on a ZBook, including which sensors are actually exposed and what they represent. Worth reading before designing a sustained-load test, because a test built on the wrong sensor produces confident nonsense. Thermal telemetry writeup.
